On July 12 it was learned from CNOOC Energy Technology & Services Limited-Petrochemicals Co. that the methodology for gas separation using LNG cold energy was approved during the 44th meeting of United Nations Methodologies Panel in Bonn, Germany.
It is the first methodology approved in international LNG cold energy utilization field, and will provide the field with considerable financial support for carbon dioxide emission reduction. Methodology is an international calculation method which incorporates energy saving and emission reduction into Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). So far the United Nations CDM Executive Board has approved over 100 methodologies, covering fields of energy efficiency improvement, renewable energy, chemical production and afforestation. Presently China's LNG import has reached 10 million tons, and the usable LNG cold energy is converted to electrical energy of 3.3 billion kWh with an approximate value of RMB 2 billion. If all this cold energy is utilized, it is equivalent to a carbon dioxide emission reduction of 340,000 tons. Calculated on its price in international primary market (EUR 8 per ton), an additional CO2 emission reduction fund of EUR 2.72 million (RMB 23.2 million) can be obtained annually. |
