The use of suspended monorail railways has become commonplace in underground hard coal mining in a wide range of countries.Â
SMT Scharf as the technology and world market leader has contributed significantly to this growth. The company has supplied a broad range of solutions for the transport of heavy loads under difficult conditions. During the last years SMT Scharf has underscored its leading position, among others, by delivering several systems of suspended monorail railways to ore mines in South Africa. Numerous contacts worldwide confirm that a lot of ore mines look for more efficient and cost-effective means of transport. Â
Reports by independent engineering firms have demonstrated that compared to current technologies suspended monorail railways can reduce cost by up to 22% and cycle time by up to 72%. This is achieved e. g. by lower fresh air requirements and smaller incline diameters. In addition, the railways reduce seismic risks.
In North America SMT Scharf has now formed a strategic partnership with Total Mine Development Inc. (TMD). Through TMD's network in services, marketing and engineering SMT Scharf can offer mine operators in North America the transport technology of the 21st century.
